17 February will always be a special day in our home.

It’s the day our eldest Daniel was born and it also happens to be the birthday of one of SA’s greatest cricketers, AB de Villiers.

As soon as Daniel could play, he started modeling himself on AB.

He lived for those moments when AB changed the game and took the team to victory.

In 2017, Daniel got the opportunity to meet his hero for the first time and it was everything he could have asked for.

AB was so gracious and he signed a bat for Daniel.

From that moment on, everything changed and Daniel was motivated to be his best.

Fast forward to 2019, and Daniel was going through some confidence issues with his batting and started being afraid of going out for a duck.

While busy with Mzansi Super League commentary, I got to do a Tshwane Spartans game and AB signed a player’s cap for my boy.

Needless to say, Daniel was over the moon.

He is now more in love with his cricket than ever before and once again, it’s that man AB de Villiers who provided the inspiration.

In Daniel’s latest two games, he scored back to back unbeaten knocks of 80 plus, laced with sixes and fours.
