When I got the call-up to commentate on the ICC Champions Trophy, I was excited about the opportunity to return to Pakistan.
I remember my first visit—commentating on the 2020 Pakistan Super League, covering games in Lahore and Rawalpindi. That was my introduction to Pakistan’s deep passion for cricket, and I knew then how important it was for big stars to keep returning to these lands to inspire hope among millions.
In 2022, when PTV invited me to co-host their studio coverage for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, I returned feeling like I had already developed a bond with the country. Fitting in felt natural. The local lingo was familiar, and the comfort was second to none.
Now, in 2025, this trip hit differently. I caught up with friends I’ve made over the years, reflected on the progress being made, and saw the opportunities for growth. I checked in with young women in cricket broadcasting—like Roha Nadeem—who are making great strides early in their careers.
I remember spending eight weeks in India in 2023 for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and coming home feeling changed. I felt a similar impact after this trip. In 2023, I took an early Uber ride to the Charminar and walked along the footpaths my ancestors probably walked all those years ago.
Recently, in Malaysia, I visited Batu Caves and felt a strong emotional pull towards the temples surrounding them. It was a life-changing experience.
And now, the opportunity to be in Pakistan during Ramadan—to hear the daily evening prayers echoing through the Lahore Fort, to feel the presence of community and unity—has been just as transformative. Moments like these, thanks to cricket, put so much in perspective.
Of course, the best part of the Champions Trophy is the event itself. It’s an exciting, short, sharp tournament featuring eight of the best teams in the world.
As commentators, we get to work with and learn from some of the best in the business, which always makes the experience even more special.
It’s been a while since I blogged, and there’s so much to catch up on. Maybe this is just the beginning of a new chapter—one where I share more of these journeys, both on and off the mic.
Until next time! xx
