A long-planned interview on 702’s Lunch with Azania show finally came together on Friday, and – a win and a loss – while Azania Mosaka was unfortunately not in for the day, I got to spend a very special 30mins in the company of 702-land and the ever-impressive Phemelo Motene.

I didn’t manage to bump into station manager Thabisile Mbete, but it’s evident that while the 702 studios have moved down a floor in Primedia’s Sandton office tower, the station has definitely moved up in the world.

In her warm and inimitable style, Phemelo quickly unearthed the fact that it’s been nearly 20 years since I joined 702, as she took me on a journey of self-reflection that included talk of the spark that birthed my love of cricket, motherhood, transformation and Cricket South Africa, my work at the SABC and much much more.

This was an interview that had me pondering how quickly the years flit by. If you have the time and the inclination, give it a listen!
