The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 will go down as one of my most favourite events to have worked on as a cricket broadcaster.
Whether it was out in the middle doing pre shows, at the toss or in commentary, the event had an empowering female presence.
A few times during the tournament, I took a moment to reflect on how far we have come as women in cricket. I remember making my cricket broadcasting debut during the 2003 men’s Cricket World Cup for SABC. Often, I was the only female crew member.
What a change #CWC22 was for me from that perspective. We were surrounded by incredible women in various roles – producers, camera operators, floor managers, and the list goes on… There was so much to learn and absorb. What an experience!
The more we progress the more gaps we will see, but what I did see in New Zealand, was a gathering of pace. Efforts have been raised across the board and in the coming years, we will welcome an abundance of change. Women’s cricket is in such a good space!
Big thank you to Sunset & Vine for an excellent broadcasting experience and to the ICC for the opportunity to be part of a stellar group. What an amazing commentary team to be around, both on and off the field!
New Zealand is beautiful, and I was grateful to have had the opportunity to experience some of amazing wonders like Mount Maunganui and Akaroa.
Personally, I never take these opportunities to travel for granted. Being married and mom to three amazing kids, it is hard to leave home. Whenever I do, it is always a fulfilling experience to pick up the mic and talk cricket.
Until next time!
