People often ask what is has been like to grow the brand of the gsport Awards. To be honest, it has never been about growing a brand, but about supporting women’s sport, and lauding icons who serve as role models to the next generation.

Celebrating 10 years of the gsport Awards this year was magnificent, and made even more so, by the endorsement and support of the Sport and Recreation South Africa and the continued support from SPAR.

This wonderful support allowed gsport to throw a fitting celebration of women’s sport – and its first Gala event, which was held at the prestigious Wanderers Club in Johannesburg.

The gsport Awards are not about size, its about significance.

Every year, together with amazing partners – including Worldwide Sports, Big Five Duty Free and Estee Lauder, gsport has been able to throw an elegant bash that raises the profile of women’s sport, and gives our female sports stars the platform to shine brightly in the presence of South Africa’s leading media.

The reality is the more we do for women’s sport, the more we need to do.

There are many challenges, but the gsport Awards remind me that we have a lot to celebrate – and many people to thank – for how far women’s sport has come.
