They say everything happens for a reason. In 2012, I went from corporate animal to stay-at-home mom. In years to come I’ll look back and realise how lucky I was to spend this precious time with Daniel and Ella.

I spent 40 days in hibernation after Ella’s birth in December 2011 to give myself an opportunity to bond with my little bundle of joy, so it was great to be out with close friends and family in January 2012 to introduce everyone to Ella. It was a beautiful brunch and my good friend – and iconic photographer – Victor Dlamini captured the wonderful memories so beautifully. Thanks, Vic!

Daniel's 3rd Birthday Party

Daniel turned three and was firmly in superhero mode, so we celebrated his SUPERDAN birthday party with friends and family. Daniel went from my baby to a little boy. It took some getting used to.

Daniel Goes to School

Daniel started school at the beginning of March this year. He loves his friends and can’t wait to get to school every day. I enjoy taking him to school, and fetching him at the end of the day. We drive and listen to my favourite music, which he happily hums along with. Precious alone time with my boy…

Leaving CSA

On March 17, I tendered my notice of my resignation from Cricket South Africa. After more than four years with the sports code administrator, I was no longer the right person to lead Corporate Relations under the circumstances. It was the right thing to do. I love cricket and will always be a firm supporter of CSA and the Proteas.

Discovering Pinterest

I enjoyed discovering Pinterest this year. It help me unwind and explore new things.

Losing My Dad

My dad’s death in June this year was a terrible blow. He was my rock, and my sporting buddy. In grieving his death, I am learning how to live fully, and love deeply. I miss him so much …

Making Potpourri

I love nesting during winter, and one of my favourite things to do is make potpourri.

YOU Spectacular

The YOU Spectacular is one of my favourite red carpet events of the year. I was delighted to be dressed by Arwen Swan. She makes the most beautiful corsets, and never disappoints. Check out her website.

Legends Award

I was humbled to receive a Legends Award in recognition of my work in sports broadcasting. I dedicated the award to my late dad, who was a Proudly South African sports fan, and encouraged me all the way. I still have a long way to go in my career and I am grateful to all those who have inspired me to be a better version of me.

SETE Gala Dinner

It was an honour to host the 2012 SETE Gala Dinner where I had the wonderful opportunity to interview some of South Africa’s Olympic medal winners, including golden boy Chad le Clos and SA Sport’s IT Girl Bridgitte Hartley.

Umhlanga Holiday

Our Umhlanga holiday was an absolute treat. It was Ella’s first trip to the sea and she loved it. There is something about the coast that keeps calling us back…

Daniel The Bakerman

I started baking in December last year. It is a work in progress. Sometimes it works and sometime it doesn’t. Daniel was Baker Man at school and he helped me bake cupcakes for his class. It got me excited about baking regularly with the kids.

Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Walk

I enjoyed being an Ambassador for the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Walk again this year along with my good friends Uyanda and Liezel.

SPAR Women's Race

I had heard about the SPAR Women’s Races and I am glad I finally got to participate this year. I am eyeing all five races next year.

Signing SPAR

It was fantastic to secure SPAR as the title sponsor of the 2012 gsport Awards. SPAR was officially welcomed at an intimate gathering where gsport unveiled the ambassadors for the 2012 event. It was an honour to host Brett Botten and Belinda Nel from SPAR.

Making Roti

I have enjoyed learning new things this year. I finally tried my hand at making roti under the watchful eye of my mom, and it was a success! My cooking skills have definitely improved by spending quality time with my mom in the kitchen. She is the best cook in town.

Halloween

After being completely obsessed with Ben 10 for such a long time, Daniel fell in love with Spiderman and this year decided to dress up as his favourite superhero for Halloween.

Dress & Dare

It was wonderful to hook up with owner of Dress and Dare Couture Cindy Roberts. I am still finding my style groove after two babies and she has brought some inspiring ideas to the table. Check out her website. Thank you, Cindy!

2012 SPAR gsport Awards

The highlight of the 2012 SPAR gsport Awards was working with the amazing awards ambassadors – Roxy Burger, Mpho Maboi, Anele Mdoda, Shashi Naidoo, Hulisani Ravele and Liezel van der Westhuizen. In such an emotionally tough year, it was encouraging to have the support of these inspiring women.

Daniel's Year End School Concert

Needlework was never my strong point in school but I surprised myself and sewed Daniel’s shepherd’s outfit for his year-end concert.

Backyard Cricket

Daniel and Ella’s relationship has blossomed this year. He is determined to turn her into a little net bowler. She indulges him much to his delight.

Ella Turns One

Little Miss Ella turned 1 in December. What an incredible milestone to celebrate after such an emotionally and physically tough pregnancy. Blessed to have her in our lives.

Baking Cupcakes

The baking improved over the months and Daniel has been by my side encouraging me to just do it. I am excited. It’s great to get up early in the morning, switch the oven on … and bake something ☺

Living in the Moment

I have learnt to relax, and live in the moment, in 2012.

Baking Bread

I plucked up the courage to start baking bread. It is going really well. I love the smell of bread baking in my kitchen ☺

And that is what this year has been about – taking knocks, learning new things, and living life. Committed to continuing learning and improving in 2013! Happy New Year!
