True sports development is anchored in school sport. I often feel that more can be done at this level to inspire athletes, administrators and coaches.

So, it was wonderful to be invited to speak at the 2019 Powerade Performance Academy aimed at equipping high school coaches with key insights to power their journeys forward.

I shared my Six of the Best Routines for Success (Find your passion, Work hard, Achieve, Fail Forward, Bounce back, and Live in the Moment).

I go back to these routines time and time again to remind myself of the importance of going back to the basics, I have found that following routines is a key success ingredient for me.

It was an outstanding panel of speakers gathered for the event which took place at the magnificent Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

My long-time friend and consummate professional Neil Andrews held the event together with aplomb, in his unique style which brought many to tears of laughter.

Proteas assistant coach, Malibongwe Maketa kicked off proceedings with an insightful talk on the strength of unity in diversity and how to coach in modern day South Africa.

Shepstone and Wylie’s Verlie Oosthuizen spoke to attendees about the pitfalls of using social media while also sharing how you can enhance your sport brand with their responsible use of online platforms.

The highlight of the Powerade Performance Academy was seeing strongman and High Performance Coach to the stars, John McGrath, perform incredible feats that blew my mind. More than that, he opened our minds and hearts to living our best lives.
