I have long admired Anand Vasu so when he asked to interview me during the first Test against India in Cape Town, I was excited and also really nervous.
It was a great interaction with him and the piece really delightful as it also focussed on my cricket obsessed son, Daniel, who was desperate to meet Virat Kohli.
Daniel persevered and obtained the his hero’s prized signature on day one of the second Test in Centurion.
I was also bowled over to be featured in India’s influential Deccan Chronicle, in an article by journalist Bipin Dani.
The article focussed on my Indian roots which date back more than 100 years and my journey into the cricket commentary box.
Ultimately, I am 100% South African and try to promote SA and sport in everything I do, but I am keen to commentate in India, and experience the passion for cricket there.
To deny my Indian heritage would be both futile and funny – there is no shortage of fondness in my heart for India, the first country to open its arms to SA cricket upon its readmission to the world stage, and today a bastion in the development of the ‘gentlemen’s game’ into a new era.
