Congratulations to Murray and Roberts on hosting one of the most significant sports awards in South Africa, in partnership with SASCOC.

In its 37th year, the Awards recognises and rewards sports development initiatives, focusing on individuals and teams that have champion potential, through the Jack Cheetham Award.

It also supports sports initiatives for people with disabilities through the Letsema Award.

Guests for the Awards ceremony were warmly welcomed by Mr Henry Laas, Group Chief Executive of Murray & Roberts Holdings, who provided historical context to the event venue and the work of M&R, and winners were warmly congratulated by the company’s Group Chairman, Mr Suresh Kana.

Both winners receive R500 000 each, with the 1st runner-up winning R150 000 each, and the 2nd runners-up R75 000 each.

This is what real support looks like!

Well done to all runners-up and winners, especially the INK Hockey club – winner of the Jack Cheetham Award, and Made for More, winner of the Letsema Award.

It was an honour to MC this prestigious event that truly honours efforts to develop sport in South Africa.

Interestingly, M&R used one of Johannesburg’s oldest historical buildings for the Awards, The Sheds at No. 1 Fox Street, a vein of quality gold among the city centre’s key revitalisation projects.

Dressing the historical venue in a sporty theme, the evening was also graced by a wide range South African artworks courtesy the Henry George Gallery of 6th Street in Parkhurst, and high-quality entertainment was courtesy Ethnix, who’s jazzy moods repertoire took guests on a musical journey with Mzansi Flair!
